Top Ten Tuesday (#27): Top Ten Series I’ve Been Meaning To Start But Haven’t

toptentuesday2
And I’m back! I’m sorry to have missed last week’s Top Ten Tuesday! I just don’t really pay attention to the dads in the books that I read…and therefore was unable to think of ten books to list for that prompt. I will have to go and check out the choices of those who did end up participating! Happy Father’s Day to all of the dads (real and literary) out there! This week it’s all about series we’ve been meaning to start, but just haven’t yet!

For those of you who don’t know what Top Ten Tuesday is all about, here is a quote from The Broke and the Bookish, the genuises behind this weekly meme!

Each week we will post a new Top Ten list that one of our bloggers here at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join. All we ask is that you link back to The Broke and the Bookish on your own Top Ten Tuesday post and, if you want to, add your name to the Linky widget on that day’s posts (typically put up midnight EST on Tuesday) so that everyone can check out other bloggers lists! If you don’t have a blog, just post your answers as a comment. Have fun with it! It’s a fun way to get to know your fellow bloggers.

And now that all of the necessary stuff is out of the way….

    1. I hope so tooooo! I’m going to stop accepting and requesting so many books for a bit, just so I can tackle this immense TBR pile haha and I’m glad I’m not alone!

        1. Wow you read a lot! And yeah Under the Never Sky doesn’t sound too exciting when I read the summary, but people have been raving about the series to me for years now…so there has to be something there, right?

          1. Probably a bit too much lately TBH, but I can’t resist signing up for blog tours and requesting ARCs when I have the opportunity. I need to slow down at some point though! I have heard the same thing about that book from so many people. Maybe we should buddy read it someday!

    1. Oh really? I usually get greedy and want more of certain characters or a world, so I prefer series usually. And yesss Harry Potter will always be special for me too 🙂

    1. Yesss, I really need to get to that one ASAP! I have to be in a certain mood to read books with that particular setting and mood though, hehe. Thanks so much for reading and commenting!
      😀

  1. 1st of all I just wanna say that I’m loving the new look on your blog Flavia! <3 Now that I've reach Flame in the Mist, I have to read Ahdieh's other books, loved her writing. The Raven Cycle is one of my faves but dreadfully slow lol. & YESSSS to Illuminae files, once you start you won't be able to quit those books lol. Great list Flavia 🙂

    1. Ahhhh thank you so much Lilly! ❤❤❤ I had a lot of fun making the new theme hehe. I was mainly distracting myself from missing Asia and being sad about other things lol but I like that it actually turned into a full theme. And ooooh that makes me more excited to read Ahdieh’s books! Should I read Flame in the Mist? I wasn’t sure because I usually get too emotional when I read about Japan lmao. I’m a sad little person, I know. I’ll have to check your blog for a review of that book. And I’ll make note about The Raven Cycle being slow, thanks for the heads up! Yeah I own the first Illuminae book…for over a year now, but just…never got to it. Lol. Thanks so much for your kind comment and for always reading my silly posts, Lilly! 😀 ❤

      1. You’re oh so very welcome Flavia! I’m sad that you’ve been feeling down & hope your spirits are lifted soon *positive vibes* <3 Flame in the Mist was SO good! def check out my review, it's non-spoilery. Loved the book but I warn ya, the world building alone will def make you think of Japan. So if it's going to make you much sadder then perhaps hold off for now lol 😉 I had Illuminae on my shelf for 1 year, intimidated by the size smh…I read it in one sitting! half the book is made up of artwork & text messages. The humor is A+ & before you know out, you run out of pages & that's when your whole world starts to fall apart but luckily for you! Gemina is already out in the world LMAO! & no need to thank me, I truly enjoy swingin' by here to read your posts & chat <3!

        1. Thank you soooo much! I’m sure I’ll cheer up soon! ❤❤❤ Job hunting just sucks, and I wish I was in Asia hahaha but my bf won’t move there with me. So I’d have to go alone if I go. SIGH. I want to teach English for a year, and was this close to going 3 years ago…..

I may have to hold off on Flame in the Mist haha but I’ll read your review anyway! 🙂 And yeahhhh I flipped through Illuminae when I bought it and thought it was SO COOL! I think I read the first few pages on Amazon before buying it too. Such a neat style and idea. Might just set aside a few days to get through Illuminae and Gemina 🙂 And aweeeee <3 I need to visit your blog more often! I'm a sucky friend lol

  2. The only one I can vouch for here is Illuminae. The rest of the series mentionned are all on my TBR.
Illuminae and Gemina were awesome reads! There were mixed reviews mainly because of the format but to me, It did just great to the story.

    1. Ohhhh awesome! I own the first Illuminae book, and although at the time I was almost going crazy with the need to read it, once it was on my shelf it kind of…stayed there, unopened. Very sad. I will have to take some time off reading ARCs so that I can tackle the TBR books that are on my shelf, haha. Thanks so much for your comment and for reading! 😀

  3. Illuminae is on my list. I started the audio, but couldn’t follow the narrative. Now I have the print on hold at the library. The Raven Cycle is awesome. I hope you enjoy it if you get to it. Happy reading!

    1. Yeahhh some books just don’t work as audiobooks. Or the narrators just aren’t a good fit, or just plain suck, haha. I hope that it goes better for you with the print book. I own it and flipped through it….and it’s super cool! You’ll see 😉 And thanks so much! Really looking forward to The Raven Cycle! Thanks so much for reading and commenting, I’ll be sure to check out your TTT asap! 😀

  4. ADSOM & Passenger were also on my list! I’ve already read The Illuminae Files, An Ember in the Ashes, The Raven Cycle, Three Dark Crowns, Rebel of the Sands and The Wolves of Mercy Falls.
Illuminae is amazing and so unique! I also highly recommend the audiobook as I have listened to it as well as read the actual book. The audiobook is done by a cast of voice actors and it’s so well done!
I really enjoyed An Ember in the Ashes & Three Dark Crowns. The Raven Cycle is one of my favourite series! And Rebel of the Sands is in my top 5 favourites! Rebel of the Sands was my favourite read of last year and Traitor to the Throne was my favourite of this year until I read Strange the Dreamer.
The Wolves of Mercy Falls I only just finished a couple days ago and I had a lot of problems with it. I have reviews up for the first 3 books if you were interested. I won’t be reading the 4th book either. I wouldn’t have read the 2nd or 3rd if I hadn’t already owned it.
Awesome list! Hope you enjoy them all haha.

    1. Glad I’m not the only one who hasn’t gotten to those yet! Haha. And oooh yeah I’m really looking forward to those! And that’s interesting about the Illuminae audiobook! I will have to see if my library has it. I’ll have to read the physical book first though, because I spent a lot of money on it when it came out lmao. So awesome about those other series! And I keep seeing Strange the Dreamer everywhere but kept forgetting to look it up on Goodreads until now, hehe thanks for the reminder! And oh okay, I’ll be sure to check out your review. I got the first 3 books from the used book store for really cheap, and thought it was cool that the writing in them were green, blue, and red!

Thanks so much! And I hope that I read them all too, haha. Also hoping you get to all of the series you want to read! Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment, and also for reading my post! 😀 <3

    1. Haha yeahhh I went a bit crazy with this list. But even so…I forgot to add some series to it! Oh well. Thanks for reading and commenting 😀

  5. Makes me that much more excited to read those! I really need to take a break from ARCs just so I can tackle my backlist…sigh. I even joined a challenge this year to help me do that, but have been failing miserably……Also glad that I’m not the only one with so many series in her TBR lmao

  6. Shades of Magic series is brilliant!! It’s one of my favorites ever! I loved Ember but had some issues with Torch but still, it’s great! The third book is coming out soon and I’m excited! 🙂 I’ve been meaning to read The Wrath and The Dawn too but somehow always pushed it back down my tbr pile. Hopefully I get to read it soooon. 🙂

    1. I keep hearing that about Shades of Magic lately! I’ve always heard good things about it, but more so lately. Or maybe I’m just noticing it more now. Who knows? Ember in the Ashes is a definite must for me, and SOON. I read a sneak peek and was so hooked, but had no time to keep reading it. Especially since there was hold upon hold on it at my library. And Wrath and the Dawn 1 and 2 are sitting on my shelf, hahaha. I’m bad. But soon! I hope we both get to read those soon!

  7. The Dark Crown books piqued my interest back when it first released, and I’ve heard good things about Ryan Graudin’s books. Marie’s made my list. Also, I’m curious about the ‘Dorothy Must Die’ books… but considering they’re “dark,” I don’t know if they’ll suit my reading style. Since I own book one, I’ll have to give it a chance!

    1. Yesss it is quite an interesting and unusual idea, particularly when we see so many of the same tropes used in YA. I won a giveaway of Three Dark Crowns sometime around the time it came out, but it only arrived to my house like 6 months later. Needless to say, it has not yet been read because my reading schedule was crazy by the time I had the book in my hand, and it was no longer a brand new release, so the other ARCs were a priority. I think that I tried the Dorothy Must Die series in audiobook version some months back, but either disliked the narrator, or the style in which the book was written. Will have to give it another try though.

  8. Ohhh I see what you mean! That sounds like a good plan 🙂 And haha I guess I’ll see what I think of those books once I get to them….IF I get to them @_@

  9. Hahaha just know that you are NOT alone! And awesome! I thought I could get to my backlist soon, but then I updated my review schedule with the ARCs I have sitting in my room…and NOPE
