Queen is a movie about growing up. Rani (Kangana Ranaut) is a Delhi girl from a conservative family who is ditched by her fiancé just before her wedding. Shocked by this, she decides to set out on the planned honeymoon alone. As she travels the world and meets new people, she gains new experiences and discovers her own identity.

Because I found out about this movie through Nisha Sharma’s My So-Called Bollywood Life (you can read my review for it here), and she gave it four stars, I had a feeling that I would more than likely enjoy it! Judging from the trailer, I had a feeling that it would be unlike any other Indian movie that I have seen before, and this made me worry a little (because I liked the style of the Indian films that I’d seen before this), but the trailer made me laugh out loud, and that really encouraged me to give Queen a try!

This film places some emphasis on family, culture, and tradition. And since I really enjoy learning about cultures and traditions other than my own, I’m not too surprised that I enjoyed those aspects of the film. I really liked Rani’s family and how loving and supporting they were! They were also quite funny (especially Rani’s grandmother)!

Despite family and tradition playing an important role in the plot of Queen, I found that a lot more emphasis was placed on friendship and, more importantly, the differences between good and bad relationships (and good and bad human beings). I definitely feel that I learned about (or at least was reminded of) the difference along with Rani.

I really enjoyed the amount of character growth in this movie. It was inspiring and empowering, and just heart-warming to see. While Queen taught us about the importance of family and friends, it also taught us that it is important to love and accept ourselves as well. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed Queen and highly recommend it!
