This drama was an intense ride through and through! From start to finish, it kept me on the edge of my seat and wanting to know more. When they call it a “mystery spectacle” in the trailer, they are not joking! Everything was quite spectacular. The production team did not choose the “cheaper option” for anything regarding this drama. The panoramic shots were fantastic, the filming and editing, the costumes, the actors, the acting, the script, the settings, etc. etc. A lot of time and money and hard work was definitely put into the making of this drama.

The lead characters Bong Hee and Joon were fun to watch together, even though Joon was a little hard to tolerate at times. And the main characters’ interactions with the other characters (especially the other missing people) were very interesting to see. I especially enjoyed the dialogues, as well as the switch between drama and comedy. I don’t usually watch super dramatic movies or TV shows because the real world is sad enough in some regards, and I really need my dose of “happy” in order to stay emotionally healthy, haha. But when I saw Missing Nine listed as a romantic comedy on Dramafever, I thought that I would give it a shot.

And I was hooked from the very first episode! The manner in which the story was told, with the use of two timelines (the past timeline being conveyed through flashbacks) was really well done, and both plot lines were quite attention-grabbing. I also liked that a lot of the plot’s focus was on friendship, as well as independent people learning to work and survive together as a group, rather than romance being the main objective (yes, even though I’m a hopeless romantic!). There was really enough excitement, mystery, and comedy to keep me entertained without my needing that hefty dose of romance that I normally prefer.

Whoever was in charge of casting also did an amazing job, as I could not imagine any of the characters being portrayed by any actors other than the ones which were chosen. They each played their part very very well, and I found myself caring for most of them quite a lot! There were times when I would be yelling at one, or more, of them to look a certain way, or check a certain thing, and I would become frustrated. But I would calm down once I told myself that that’s just part of the thriller genre. If everyone was all-knowing and just super intelligent, it would (first of all) be unrealistic, and second of all there would not be much of a plot!

All in all, even though this drama was different from the kdramas I normally watch, I mostly have good things to say about it, and although I will not be re-watching it (or at least, not very soon), this is due to the fact that I know how it ends, rather than any lack of quality in the show itself. I definitely recommend this drama to those who are new to kdramas, as well as those who have been watching kdramas for a bit longer (like myself)!

  1. I started this drama but it got to be too much angst over Choi Tae Ho. Do you think I should try to finish it? I hadn’t heard much about it from anyone so I’ve just put it on the back burner…

    1. Hmmm yeah the Choi Tae Ho thing got a bit annoying, but I pushed through because of the other characters. I’d say finish it if you want to know how it ends, but don’t force it 🙂
