Indigo Teen Staff Pick of the Month: February 2018

Welcome to my Indigo Teen Staff Pick of the Month blog post for February 2018! If you’ve been following my Instagram, you might have noticed that I’ve been posting about the Indigo Teen Staff Picks since November of last year. But I never talked about them on the blog before January. Well, this was originally Milana’s idea (from A Couple Reads), and she was so nice to let me try this out as well. She thought to make monthly feature blog posts! Duh, Flavia! Why didn’t I think of this?! I’m still kicking myself, but am so grateful to Milana for giving me permission to make these posts as well! Continue reading to see which book is this month’s Indigo Teen Staff Pick!

For those of you hearing about Indigo Teen Staff Pick of the Month for the first time, it’s a program started and run by Chapters/Indigo Books & Music Inc. where 100 staff members read a bunch of books and then choose their pick of the month! Each month’s book is announced by Chapters/Indigo at the beginning of each month (usually on the first Tuesday), and the picks are secret until then! Isn’t that exciting? Please be sure to use #IndigoStaffPicks if you share anything about this on social media, or you want to show off your own copy of whichever month’s Teen Staff Pick book in connection to this program!

– About the Book –

Title: The Hazel Wood
Author: Melissa Albert
Type: Fiction
Genre: YA, Fantasy
Publisher: Flatiron Books (Macmillan Publishers)
Published: January 30, 2018

Seventeen-year-old Alice and her mother have spent most of Alice’s life on the road, always a step ahead of the uncanny bad luck biting at their heels. But when Alice’s grandmother, the reclusive author of a cult-classic book of pitch-dark fairy tales, dies alone on her estate, the Hazel Wood, Alice learns how bad her luck can really get: her mother is stolen away―by a figure who claims to come from the Hinterland, the cruel supernatural world where her grandmother’s stories are set. Alice’s only lead is the message her mother left behind: “Stay away from the Hazel Wood.”

Alice has long steered clear of her grandmother’s cultish fans. But now she has no choice but to ally with classmate Ellery Finch, a Hinterland superfan who may have his own reasons for wanting to help her. To retrieve her mother, Alice must venture first to the Hazel Wood, then into the world where her grandmother’s tales began―and where she might find out how her own story went so wrong.
