Some of you may not know this, but the first Guardians of the Galaxy film is one of my favourites of all time! It was funny, action-packed, with a good plot. It was made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me “awe.” I’ve seen it a few times since first watching it in theaters last year, and it’s just pure gold. Due to this opinion I have of the first movie, I went into watching the second one with the worry that it just wouldn’t compare. Many of us have experienced disappointing sequels before, I’m sure, and I was worried that this might become one of them. I also felt hope, however, since Marvel did such a great job with the Avengers films.

Before watching Iron Man, Captain America, Ant Man, and all of the Avengers films, I was not one of those people who had read the comics and knew much about them. As a kid I used to watch Batman and Superman on TV, and was never too too impressed, but was entertained. I never had any exposure to any of the Marvel heroes when I was a child though, so I went in completely blind. The same applies to The Guardians of the Galaxy. With both films, all of the information that I had was what I’d been shown in the trailers (and in the case of the second film, what I’d seen in the first film).

The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 did not let me down though! It was everything that the trailer had promised, and more. Once again I laughed and cried, and overall had a very good time! The dialogue was great, just as in the first film. The chemistry between the actors as well as the characters was palpable, and really fun to watch. I also like how this film, as well as the first, focuses a lot on friendship, and how to work together as a team. It also emphasizes the importance of trust, loyalty, and clear communication!

The visuals were fantastic, and I remember just sitting there with my eyes wide, watching in awe as the spectacle unfolded in front of me. It was colourful, it was stimulating, and all while keeping things tasteful. Never once did I find that there was too much too look at, or that I couldn’t take everything in because of visual overload. The cinematography was just great.

As for the sound, it was also crisp, and it was easy to distinguish which sound came from where. The soundtrack also was no let down, since the song selection and placement was just as good as in the first film. I actually listened to the soundtrack a few times in a row for the next few weeks after watching the movie! It’s great how these films give meanings to songs that some of us were too young to appreciate, or some of us weren’t even alive for. While younger listeners obviously cannot experience these songs as they were coming out (unless we invent time machines), we can appreciate and enjoy them through the Guardians of the Galaxy films. I absolutely love these films, and I recommend them to everyone all the time!

    1. Baby Groot is the BEST! Hahaha! And I know what you mean. The first movie will always hold a special place in my heart, but this was a great addition to the story 🙂 and I’m excited to see what the Guardians will get into next, hehe.

  1. I saw this movie as my high school graduation party (my family went to a dine in theater and took up a whole row in the theater to watch it!) It was really good and baby Groot is one of my favorite things ever! So adorable! 🙂

    1. Awe that would have been so much fun! I went with my boyfriend at like midnight haha but we went to one of those VIP places so we had a small dinner and some beer haha and the chairs were super comfy. If I ever graduate again, renting out a row in a place like that for a movie is what I’ll be doing!! 😀

  2. I only got around to watching this a couple of days ago but I loved it. Think it may have been better than the first one. That opening scene with Groot dancing is possibly the best thing I’ve ever seen.
