Down the TBR Hole, weekly meme

Down the TBR Hole #5

I’ve been doing surprisingly well with making these Down the TBR Hole posts every week! (I hope that I didn’t just jink it, haha.) I think that this meme is very useful, especially for those of us who see our TBR list growing rather than shrinking. I’m either purging books that I have no interest in anymore, or I’m remembering why I wanted to read the books that stay on the list. Keep reading to see which books will be staying, and which will be going this week!

For those of you hearing about this meme for the first time, here’s some more info from the blog of the creator, Lia @ Lost in a Story:

Down The TBR Hole is a meme that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

Most of you probably know this feeling, your Goodreads TBR pile keeps growing and growing and it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. You keep adding, but you add more than you actually read. And then when youre scrolling through your list, you realize that you have no idea what half the books are about and why you added them. Well thats going to change!

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if youre feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

Mary E. Pearson’s The Kiss of Deception

I’d forgotten what this book was even about, haha. But it’s sitting on my shelf, so I kind of can’t remove it from the TBR list, unless I plan on selling or giving the book away. After re-reading the synopsis, I find that I am actually still interested in reading this one, so it’s:

April Genevieve Tucholke’s Wink Poppy Midnight

I own this book as well! I read a sneak peek from it back in 2016 when I started blogging, and was so intrigued that I bought this book with the last paycheck that I got from being a Teaching Assistant at the end of my Master’s program haha. I haven’t touched it since then though. Oh the guilt. Maybe I’ll just pick it up and read it in one go. This one is definitely:

Tiffany FitzHenry’s The Oldest Soul

This book is very difficult to get in Canada, and it really doesn’t intrigue me like it did when I added it to the list. I hope that I won’t grow to regret deleting this one from the list, in case I suddenly feel like reading something like it, but don’t remember the name of this book. Oh bookworm problems. But anyway, for now, it’s:

Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl

Definitely 100% staying! Not only do I own this book, but I still really really really want to read it. I haven’t yet actually read any Rainbrow Rowell (unless you count reading the first chapter from Carry On, also by Rowell, haha). Speaking of Carry On, I know that it’s the story that Cath (the main character in Fangirl) is writing. So I’m not sure if there are spoilers in Carry On somehow…? Anyone know? It’s:

Rainbow Rowell’s Attachments

I’m very torn on this one! This book is also more difficult to find in Canada … but it’s a Rainbow Rowell book, and it does sound intriguing. I think that I’ll have to be in a particular mood to read this one though. SIGH. Has anyone read this? I guess for now, it’ll be:

THANK YOU FOR READING THIS DOWN THE TBR HOLE POST! ARE ANY OF THESE BOOKS ON YOUR TBR LIST? WHY? WHY NOT? OR WERE THEY ON YOUR LIST BEFORE YOU REMOVED THEM FOR ONE REASON OR ANOTHER? LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS BELOW!

  1. I JUST finally read my first Rainbow Rowell last week! I started with Eleanor and Park but I want to read Fangirl so much also! I didn’t know there was anyone else left who still hadn’t read her haha

  2. I’ve heard Kiss of Deception is pretty good. I think I have it on Kindle. I loved Fangirl! I read it last year for the first time, and after reading Carry On too! I think that is why I loved it more because I’d already been so invested in her characters.

  3. I have read both of those Rainbow Rowell books. I enjoyed them both, but I do understand why some people have a problem with Attachments. The others I have heard about, but never added them to my TBR.
