How we met: I first spotted this colouring book online in late 2015, before it was even released. The adult colour book craze had just started (or maybe I had just become aware of it), and I was excited at the prospect of having more complicated designs to colour in.

drwho1The fact that many of the colouring books coming out were also fandom-based was also very exciting! I perused a number of them, and then added this Doctor Who colouring book to my Amazon wishlist. Some weeks later, Christmas rolled around, and it turned out that my sister had purchased the book for me!

Our time together: I was very excited to take advantage of my winter break, of nothing to read or write for grad school (as I was becoming fairly burned out by December). And one of the things that I wanted to do with my free time was do some colouring.

drwho2When my boyfriend let my sister and I his expensive Prismacolor pencils, I became even more excited. I decided to start with the first page, which features an image of two Weeping Angels, and therefore not much colour-wise, as they are the colour of concrete statues – gray. After colouring the angles in with many shades of gray (haha), I sadly became busy with grad school again and was unable to finish. I haven’t started colouring in any of the other pages either, because some of the design don’t require much colour (like in the image on the left. Those little creatures are actually white…so I don’t know if they wanted us to colour in the solid background in one colour or what).

drwho3Or because the quality of the designs is just not that good (like in the image below). I wonder if they took some of these designs from various artists? Because they really differ in style and quality too much to have been created by one artist. Over this winter break I may colour another page or two, but we’ll see. I do really love the cover of this book, as the blue is a very nice metallic blue. But the designs are kind of more fun to look at than to actually colour (for me at least). Overall, I would say that it’s probably a must-have for a collector, or a Doctor Who fan, but I am not sure how much joy it would bring to someone who were to purchase it simply for the pleasure of colouring.

  1. I got this book last year as well! However I really enjoyed it so far. Definitely some designs are better than others, but there were several I really liked so far (the Zygons and the Tardis in the junkyard). For $10 I thought they gave a nice variety of designs. However it helped that this year I had to sit through several classes where I already fully understood the material but was still required to attend to get credit. This book (plus a book of color-your-own cards from Target) kept me sane during those classes.

    1. Awe that’s so awesome! I’m glad you enjoyed it more than me. I think that I would have appreciated it more if I’d been on your situation. I think I’ll give colouring it one more try this winter 🙂

Thanks so much for reading and commenting! 😀

  2. Thanks so much for reading and commenting! And that’s so awesome! They have 2 Doctor Who colouring books out now! But I haven’t been able to take a look at the second one, haha.

    1. Haha no problem I comment to things I like I don’t blame you its really hard to schedule blogging coursework and doing other thing’s I can’t wait to buy them and blog about them if I could I’d buy everything related to doctor who. haha

  3. Yeah, that one graphic is kinda ehhh. And yeah, are you supposed to just color the little white guys different colors? If you’re a true colorer, like you and me, you want the image to be true to the original pic. Weird coloring book, when there’s not much color and the art varies!
I’m drawn to TLC one, but I’m thinking that one might not be colorful either! I mean, the moon is pretty colorless! Lol!

    1. Haha I’m glad you get what I mean and feel the same! And I want the TLC one! Even though I’ve flipped through it and thought it more nice to look at that “omg I want to colour this NOW!”

  4. My 6 year old niece and I bonded over this coloring book when our family took a trip to Florida this past Summer. We didn’t color in it at all. She just wanted me to tell her stories. Then we actually watched a few episodes. She’s a fan of 11. She calls him “the funny one.” She’s not wrong. Before we left, she drew me a picture of the doctor with the TARDIS, complete with bow tie. It was adorable. As for the coloring book, I agree that a lot of the images seem difficult or even pointless to try to color. I just keep mine as a collectible.
