Currently Reading, Watching, Listening To, Trying (#9)

ezgif-1-f3fef490bdSince it’s been about a month since the last time  that I made one of these posts, I thought that it would be a good time for an update! (Even though more recently these posts have been about what I’ve been reading, and not watching, listening to, and trying, haha…ha…)

– CURRENTLY READING –

Forest of a Thousand Lanterns by Julie C. Dao: This is one of the books that I was most excited about! Unlike the majority of people who are into this book, I’m not too crazy about the cover, but that’s okay because the content is more important anyway…and it’s the story which drew me to this book! I’m about halfway through the book now, and really enjoyed the start. It lagged a little bit between the start and the middle, but it’s caught my attention again now and I’m hoping to finish it by the end of today!

The Fire Queen by Emily R. King: I read and reviewed the first book in this series (The Hundredth Queen) earlier this year (you can read my review here) and really liked it. I am only a few pages into the sequel now because I didn’t expect this book to come in the mail, and had already filled all of my reading slots for September and October by the time it came haha. I might audiobook it so that I can finish it and review it quicker. We shall see.

Uncommon Type by Tom Hanks: I first heard about this book at the Penguin Fall Preview event that I attended at the beginning of September, and I remember being very excited because…it’s Tom Hanks! He’s one of my favourite actors, and You’ve Got Mail with him and Meg Ryan is one of my favourite movies! I imagined that when reading his book, I would hear him narrating everything in my head, and I wasn’t wrong. I’ll be done reading this collection of short stories soon, and my review will also be going up this week since this lovely book came out yesterday!

The Little Book of Hygge by Meik Wiking: I’d been eyeing this book for quite some time, but always came up with an excuse to not read it. When I saw that The Little Book of Lykke would be coming out on September 7th of this year (also at the Penguin Fall event that I attended in early September), I just had to request both! I’m not too far into it, but it’s quite the cozy read so far (especially for being nonfiction).

Sources: I received physical ARCs of these books in exchange for honest reviews from their respective publishers.

– CURRENTLY WATCHING –

song-hye-kyo

I actually haven’t continued anything, or started anything new since finishing the most recent season of Game of Thrones, and finishing the first season of GLOW. I’ve been starting to crave my kdramas a bit more, though, which is good! But, due to full time work, extra contract work, and my busy reading schedule, I don’t think I’ll be starting any kdramas, or other TV shows until mid-November! The good news is, that I was able to make a post about my top 10 kdramas hahaha which made me crave my Korean dramas that much more! You can read it here.

We went and saw Logan Lucky in theatres since the last update (although I didn’t feel like reviewing it, despite it being quite funny), and we plan on watching the new The Dark Tower movie soon since it’s coming out on DVD. We’re also going to go see the new Blade Runner 2049 film (maybe next week), so stay tuned for some possible film reviews!

– CURRENT TOP 10 –

I haven’t actually listened to a particular playlist since the last update. I’ll put on certain songs from the new BTS album occasionally, but I’ve mostly been listening to audiobooks actually! Especially while doing housework and yoga, I’ve just thrown on an audiobook, and found that time goes a lot quicker, and it keeps me from getting bored because the audiobooks keep my mind busy. I’m pretty happy about this discovery too! I’m currently listening to Cress by Marissa Meyer, and How to be a Bawse by Lilly Singh!

– CURRENTLY TRYING –

I got a sample pack of 1 primer, 1 mascara, and 1 lipstick when I went to the event at HarperCollins Canada earlier this month (blog post about that here). They’re all by Smashbox products, which is a brand that I have nothing but good experiences with, but due to having had no reason to wear makeup a lot lately, I’ve only tried the primer. It didn’t mix well with my tinted moisturizer though, haha, so I will have to try it some more before I can really say anything concrete about it. In other beauty news, I reviewed the Bite Beauty liquid lipsticks and the Kat Von D Saint + Sinner scents sent to me by Influenster!

    1. Yeeeees! As I read it, I kept hearing Tom Hanks narrating it to me in my head hahaha. Turns out there’s an audiobook version of the book which IS narrated by him too! I kind of need it LOL

  1. I don’t love the FOTL cover either! I am looking forward to seeing your thoughts on it though! Still going back and forth on whether or not to read it!

I definitely want to read Tom Hank’s book though. So intrigued and I’ve heard good things!

  2. I liked ‘GLOW’ but it is too fictional. The true story of ‘GLOW’ is wonderful. The series adaptation is just Hollywood fiction The documentary is much better. {I thought.}

  3. I love this post about well a little everything! Glad to see you are a busy bee but I had no doubts about it Flavai!

      1. You are more than welcome Flavia! It’s been a real challenge to follow my feed this week as work was killing me 😉

  4. I’ve been eyeing The Little Book of Hygge for awhile now, I feel like it will be a perfect fall/winter book! 🙂

    1. YES! It is perfect for fall/winter. It’s so cozy, and contains information on how to make your life even MORE cozy. I also really appreciate the book’s physical quality as well! The pictures are coloured, the paper is very good quality, and I LOVE the cover and the fact that it’s hardcover.

  5. I was kind of tempted to go to London for Tom Hanks book signing but it sounded nuts as far as security went. I can totally understand it but yeah, no. It’s definitely a book I’ll be trying to get my hands on.

Forest of a Thousand Lanterns is also on my want to read list so I’m very happy you’re enjoying. I suspect I will be receiving it very soon.

    1. Aweee I would have wanted to go too, but would have likely decided against it because of the security, and the amount of people that would be there. I enjoyed both books, and I hope that you do too! 😀

  6. UGH! I thank you for bringing Uncommon Type to my attention cuz I LOVE ME SOME TOM HANKS!!!! Bahhha! Glad to also see you’re enjoying it & that his voice comes through in his writing.I think I’ll save FOATL for a slower reading mth since its probably a darker read. I’m actually really looking forward to The Fire Queen, def ordering a copy. Lastly, I think we are movie twins cuz we tend to watch the same flicks around the same time lol. I’m also planning on Watching Dark Tower soon but October was dead on the movie front. Now November looks promising *insert excited emoji* <3 <3 <3

    1. Yeeeeees! I hope that you get your hands on that book soon! I found out like last week that there’s an audiobook version that’s actually narrated by him lmao, and I kind of need it! And yeah FOATL was definitely dark, and I’m happy that I was able to read it in October 😀

And yay movie twins! Were you able to watch Dark Tower? And if so, what’d you think? And yesss more promising movies coming out in November! ❤ ❤ ❤

  7. Let’s see…currently watching…well, I’m rewatching Leverage (again. I love this show so much), and I’m watching The Originals season 4 finally. I’m not really listening to anything at the moment, though I really need to make a writing playlist for NaNoWriMo, and trying…well, I went paintballing for the first time last weekend. Does that count as trying something?

    1. Ohhhh I’ve never seen those before. Will have to check them out. Also, good luck on NaNoWriMo! Haha yes it does count as trying something! I usually use that part of the post for new beauty products I’m trying haha but yes paintballing works! Did you have fun?

        1. That’s awesome! I went paintballing a few Halloween’s ago, and they’d set it up so that participants had to shoot zombies, while trying to escape with their lives haha. It was pretty great!
