Welcome to the wrap-up for another great month for Calendar Girls! This past month we got a little spookier by going with the Best Paranormal Novel theme! And it was so much fun to see what everyone’s favourites were. Seriously! – Most Popular Pick –

Thank you to everyone who voted in the October poll! It was a very close one this month, with a tie between Dracula, The Host, and This Savage Song…until there was a tie breaker! And the winner ended up being…Draculaaaa!

unnamed (17).jpgIt’s actually kind of understandable that Dracula won though, because it is the book that kind of started it all for vampires in books and films. Yes, the legend of Dracula is hundreds of years old, but this book definitely encouraged a lot more fascination with the subject, and also inspired others to write about vampires as well! Who knows if vampires would have become such a cultural phenomenon if it hadn’t been for Mr. Stoker deciding to write about a little country called Romania, and its legend about Vlad the Impaler, a.k.a. Vlad Dracul, a.k.a.Dracula? So, thank you for that Mr. Bram Stoker!

– #CGBChat –

We were very sad to cancel the October CGBChat! But it just was not good timing for us. Melanie is living that PHD life, and Flavia is doing a full time internship and working freelance as well. Combine that with blogging, other responsabilities, and #adulting…and you have two very busy bees.

We hope to be able to host the November chat, but will keep you updated on that through the Twitter group chat. If the chat does happen, it would take place on Sunday, November 19th at 8PM EST, and we will be discussing the best series endings!

– Readalong –

la-et-renegades-cover-20170515We’re having another readalong! Yay! As some of you know, due to November’s theme being Best End of a Series, it would have been close to impossible to pick the end of a series that everyone has kept up with and wants to read. You know? So Melanie and I (Flavia) decided to offer you guys a list of the books that I will already be reading in November (since neither of us could handle adding another book to our reading schedules), and you guys voted! Well, I’m happy to announce that I’ll be hosting a readalong with Renegades by Marissa Meyer, and it’ll be running from November 11th (we’ll start reading on the 11th since the book comes out November 7th, and I want everyone to have enough time to get their hands on the book) to December 2nd. There will be 3 discussions happening this time, rather than 4, but you can find all of the details in my announcement and sign-up post!

    I am new to wordpress, so everything is still pretty confusing right now. How will you know that I want to participate?

    1. Hi Samantha! That’s so great to hear 🙂

      And yes, to be a part of Calendar Girls, all you have to do is post your book choice that goes with the theme for each month, on the first Monday of each month.

      Then there’s also voluntary stuff you can participate in, such as signing up for the newsletter, the Twitter group chat that we have (if you’re on Twitter), and participating in the monthly Twitter chat where we use the #CGBchat hashtag 🙂

      Also, regarding the letting us know that you want to participate, what I usually recommend is that you just comment on my post of the month, or Melanie’s, with a link to your post 🙂 that way we can add it to the list of links from other participants, which helps others find you and your blog as well.

      Oh also, since my wrap-up post doesn’t mention this, we keep our book choices secret until they day that we post them up 😀

  2. I wish I could do the Renegades readalong! It’s on my tbr, but I’m just having such a hard time finding time to read right now, I don’t think I’d be able to keep up. :/ Plus, you know, getting a copy.

    1. Awe I wish you could too! I’m so sorry that you’re not getting much time to read 🙁 it’s super saddening when that happens. And yeah, getting a copy. I’m very lucky that my friend was able to get me a copy, or I wouldn’t have a copy of it either.

          1. I asked, but the librarian at the desk didn’t seem to have any idea what I was talking about. I think my library is too small-time to do requests on books that aren’t already in the system. And they only get new things that they expect to be pretty popular.
